The seven-phase approach
A career move rarely happens in one leap. This worksheet breaks it into seven phases, so you can see where you are, what comes next, and what can wait.
To keep a copy, print it or choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print dialog.
The worksheet
How to use it
- Start with the phase you’re in. It doesn’t have to be phase one.
- Keep your answers short and honest. Bullet points are fine.
- Tick a phase when you’ve done enough to move on. You can always come back.
Fill it in here or on paper. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere: it stays in this browser tab and disappears when you close it, so print or save it as a PDF to keep a copy.
Phase 1 of 7
Reflect
Notice what’s prompting the change.
Phase 2 of 7
Assess
Take stock of where you stand.
Phase 3 of 7
Explore
Widen the options before you narrow them.
Phase 4 of 7
Decide
Choose a direction you can commit to for now.
Phase 5 of 7
Plan
Turn the decision into steps with dates.
Phase 6 of 7
Act
Take the first step, then the next.
Phase 7 of 7
Review
Look back, learn, and decide what’s next.
A note on the name: the seven phases are a plain, general structure for any career move or coaching programme. They aren’t taken from a published model.
